Insert a Notes document, view or database Link into Microsoft Word

Hint Short Cut: Add this to your code & documentation to help you find this page.

When creating documentation for databases, it can be handy to add notes links to MS word documents.

To add a link you first need to create an NDL file.

To create an NDL file, create the link by doing a "Edit->Copy as Link->whatever".

Open up notepad.

Paste the text into the editor.

Optional fix the hint line by making it Abbreviated instead of canonical.

eg: change CN=calns02m/OU=CA1/OU=NMP/O=AdFos to  calns02m/CA1/NMP/AdFos

Save as UsefulLink.ndl

In word: Select the area where you want to add the link.

Do a Edit->Insert Object.

Choose Creafe from file and pick the file just saved.

NB: For top notch documentation you can link to Design elements by doing an "Edit->Copy as Link->Named Element" in the design client.

NB: You can create NDLs automatically using our utilities database, search for this here.
