Surprised that IE7 is a high priority upgade, but downloaded the 14mb install file and then waited while it downloaded everything else.
It also asked me if I wanted to install the Malicious Software Removal tool.
This apparently downloads new malicous patterns on the first tuesday of each month and checks the machine for them.
When it eventually installed I had to reboot the machine, so slick as always Microsoft. Why does this always fill me with dread?
So what are the new features of internet explorer seven 7.0.5730.11. Well when it launched it asked me to enable anti phishing tool, ok fair enough.
Tabbed interface, BORING ! Firefox had this months ago and Lotus Notes had it years ago. Yawn. Not impressed.
A command bar. Oooh. This has to be the most annoying feature, see later.
The links bar is not shown by default on ie7. All usernames and passwords I saved have gone, but my favourites and links were there and the google toolbar still worked.
I eventually found how to show the links in the bar by clicking on the blue cog (tools), then toolbars then ticking links.
I stuck this next to google bar, then closed ie7 and then reopened to find the links on it's own line, so I dragged it again and right clicked on the Command bar and ticked lock toolbars and closed and reopened ie7 - on it's own line again. How useless! I then dragged google after links and this worked. Lovely. How unintuitive.
To disable the tabs on ie7 : left click on blue cog and select internet options, then click on tab settings, untick Enable tabbed browsing, and then restart ie7. This removes the tabs, but leaves the command bar.
How do I hide the command bar in ie7 ? Basically you can't hide the command bar. If you right click and Customize command bar and then add/remove commands you can remove all commands except the favourites stars. If you restart the commands come back. How did this application get through quality control?
All this leads me to:
How do I uninstall ie7?
See: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx
OK lotus Notes and ie7:
I tried a few domino sites, http://AdFos.com , http://NotesNinjas.com http://www.Notes.net and it seemed to work ok with rich text applet etc.
The RSS worked ok with Notes Ninjas which was nice.
