Space between columns in a view on the web

Hint Short Cut: Add this to your code & documentation to help you find this page.

When trying to add spaces in a web view to the ends of columns or just a column by itself with a space in as the formula, the spaces mysteriously vanish. Here's how to fudge it.

If you use the "Treat view contents as HTML" option then this is not a problem, but sometimes you want to use Notes icons etc or you actually like using the Notes formatting of the view, and this is where the problem starts.

I tried adding a column to display a blank icon but this didn't work. Annoying.

One way is to add a column and make the formula ":" then make the text for the column white. This works fine but the grey backgrounded weekends and red backgrounded today show up the column. It still looks ok, and you can change the colour of these backgrounds anyway.

Another way is to add the space at the end of the preceding column followed by a bracket. i.e. Column one has formula Name+" (" and then column two has formula days+")" . This works but the space and bracket can become a link which doesn't look good.

British book of the year 2000. Great book, hard to put down, but I nearly threw it away half way through. You'll know why when you read it.
